The ENAIRE Foundation is showing the exhibition ‘Evolutionaries’, which was awarded the Photography Prize by the foundation itself, at the Cervantes Institute in Madrid from June 15 to August 26, as part of PHotoEspaña.
Evolucionarios’ is the second great exhibition organized by ENAIRE Foundation in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute in Madrid to present its annual photography awards. The exhibition, which can be visited from June 15 to August 26, 2018, is part of the Official Section of PHotoEspañajunto with another of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art that will open its doors on June 20 at the Palacete del Embarcadero in Santander. Both are curated by Ángeles Imaña, director of Conservation and Cultural Projects at Fundación ENAIRE.
Made up of a selection of 32 works of different sizes and styles, ‘Evolutionary’ refers to the three ages of photography, the different stages visual artists go through in their professional development.
Through this exhibition speech the show presents, first, the decision of the three photography awards that ENAIRE Foundation has granted in 2018 with the aim of promoting and recognizing those artists who year after year struggle to make photographic art their profession. An award that was born in 2005 and with which the Foundation launched a sponsorship program to promote visual creation. Eleven editions later, the ENAIRE Foundation Photography Award has become a consolidated platform for artistic promotion in which more than a thousand professional photographers have already participated and which this year has gone to Juan Millás, María Primo and Eduardo Nave.
In line with this commitment to photographic work, in 2018 Fundación ENAIRE wanted to take another step forward by creating two new awards in this artistic category: the Trajectory Award, in recognition of an entire career dedicated to photography and which in its first edition was awarded to Javier Vallhonrat, and the Residence Award, which contributes to the promotion of new creators in their formative stage, in this case, Gema Rupérez, Javier Viver and Ana Linhares.
This trio of awards has resulted in an exhibition that includes 10 representative photographs of Javier Vallhonrat’s work, the three prize-winning works and the seven selected in the 11th edition of the ENAIRE Foundation Photography Prize and, finally, the final projects of the three artists awarded the first ENAIRE Foundation Residence Prize.MADRID DIARIO
