A project about Narcissus and the loss of face.
“After rejecting the love of the nymph Echo, Narcissus didn´t fall in love with himself –as falsely accused- instead, he became fascinated with an image, without realising that it was his own, and he was punished (long before Lacan was born! ) for having refused the mediation of someone else to built his ego and having been satisfied with a mere simulacrum”. Román Gubern
The Celebrities is comprises various photography and video pieces of portraits. In those works some of the famous stars from Hollywood are shown as Narcissus, been transformed in monster creatures or secular cyclops.
In order to do that it is made a simple effect of mirroring over the central axis of the portrait. When it is duplicated it looks like reflecting on the stagnant lake. As in the Narcissus myth the self reference conclude with the loss of the face and the impossibility of building identity without the neighbour mediation.
